About this list:
With well over 750 entries, I claim this to be the most comprehensive list of composers with
names beginning with S anywhere on the planet (albeit in a slightly unorthodox format).
The list has been compiled from numerous sources: the Schwann and Bielefelder catalogues,
several smaller music encyclopædiæ, my own collections of recordings and
concert program notes. In the course of searching for links, I have turned up a number
of other lists of composers, and I have collated new names from these, linking the
names thus found back to the source. Many names have turned up in multiple lists,
I have generally linked only to the list where I first found the name. Finally, some
readers have sent me mail to point out additional composers (Thanks to: Julian Hook).
In the end, this is really just a bit of a lark. (Although, if I can turn up this amount
of information for free, imagine what I could do if you paid me for my time!-)
With regards to copyright: I claim the copyright to this list. If you want
to build your own list, collecting names from as many sources as you can get your
hands on, fine. And if in the course of doing so you make reference to my list,
that's fine, too. But if you were to copy this list (with or without the links)
and replace my signature with yours... oh, why would you want to do that? Don't. Thank you.
